Decorah, IA and Toppling Goliath

Getting There

It was a bit of a detour but in the general direction and Toppling Goliath Brewing Co was a destination of mine. Leaving the Cleveland area I first stopped at the Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA Journey for a night.

And I enjoyed an Old Fashioned in glass.

Then on to the Springfield Illinois KOA Journey for a night.

And the refreshment was a Manhattan:

Pulpit Rock Campground – Decorah, IA

I reserved three nights at a Decorah City Campground called Pulpit Rock. It turns out the Decorah, IA has a large network of biking trails and a very nice Parks and Recreation system. Pulpit Rock is a beautiful campground.

After set up I headed to the brewery.

Trout Run Trail

The next morning I walked the 2+ mile loop trail that follows the Upper Iowa River then into town and loops back to campground. It is part of a 12 mile trail called Trout Run.

The Pulpit Rock

It turns out the campground is named after a rock, Pulpit Rock, and I hiked to the rock next.

The Waterfalls

Another Decorah park; had to drive to the trail head – I could have (should have) biked.

The source of the falls is a spring that flows out of the rocks above. There was a trail/steps to the source:
