As I got closer to Florida I first made a one night reservation at the Perry KOA but as Hurricane Milton ripped through the Tampa area there was extensive wind damage. I added two nights to the reservation so ended up staying in Perry for three nights.
I regret not taking any pictures of the area. Perry is near Steinhatchee which is a small town on the Gulf Coast in big bend area. This is the town that got the direct hit of hurricane Helene just a few weeks earlier. As I drove near the town I saw the extensive damage and couldn’t help but wonder how my hometown would look when I got there.
The Perry KOA had quite a few campers that, like me, were waiting out for electricity in their hometowns to be restored.
